Keaton Shaffer is a writer, journalist and filmmaker from Denton/Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.
He is currently working on his undergraduate degree in print journalism at the University of Oklahoma, where he works as a senior news reporter at the OU Daily.
At the Daily, Shaffer has covered protests, elections and political events clearly and without bias. He's explored community engagement with local business and politics. He's developed relationships with sources, from students and citizens to local business owners and politicians. He's developed meaningful features to share stories that matter.
Shaffer has 5 years of experience in journalistic writing, is proficient in AP style and has worked with various different cameras and editing softwares.
Shaffer is also the co-director of film and digital media production company Proficiency Studios with long-time collaborator Seth Buraglio, which has amassed over 23,000 views on YouTube.
The duo met in junior high school and created Proficiency Studios during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have since produced a variety of digital content, from comedy skits and video essays to short films and documentaries.
In high school, Shaffer was a co-editor-in-chief of the FM Wire, Flower Mound High School’s student-led newspaper. There, he covered a district shut down and superintendent change during the pandemic, the economic instability of high school teachers, local sex trafficking responses and more. He was also the principle copy-editor and designer for 4 magazine issues.
Shaffer is a National Merit Scholarship Association Finalist and won Outstanding Editor at the Gloria Shields 2023 NSPA Conference.
A firm believer that knowledge is power, Shaffer aims to get the right information out to the people who need it.
